Playgroup versus... Naptime?

For the past two weeks in a row, Chelsea has come home from our regular Friday playgroup (holla!) and refused to nap. Oh, she'll stay in her room, she'll even stay in her bed, but WIDE awake. Today, I kept her in there for 2 hours hoping and hoping she'd finally go to sleep.

Because the wages of no naptime? Worse than death.

Cranky toddler = Ruined dinner. Bathtime meltdown. Much, much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and that's just Jeremy and me).

But today? It's freaking Halloween! How can I drag a cranky, over-tired child around in costume, in the dark, to our neighbors' houses, asking for candy?!

Today, I'm hoping to solve that problem with our least favorite baby-sitter: television. I figure if she sits in front of the TV for a while, maybe she'll at least be rested enough that she won't lose it in the middle of trick-or-treating if someone, oh I don't know, looks at her.

So for today, problem (maybe?) solved. But what to do next week? And the week after that? In the battle of playgroup versus naptime, who wins? I'd HATE to miss my playgroup, sometimes that's the only adult female conversation I get all week. But the torture of missed naptime is so acute, so horrible... I just don't know.

Happy Halloween to you and here's hoping you have less of a horror show at your house than we are likely to have here!

It's funny you mentioned this. Remember how we used to meet from 11-2 and changed it because of the nap times, I'm wondering if that's happening again. Sarah didn't sleep well last night (potty issue) and what a raving BITCH she was, so I hear you. She's been napping again, in the car, but napping.

I'm wondering if they're going through a change again????? Do you think meeting earlier or later would work? I can't imagine missing group either, but we're here to help out anyone. I was late Friday, so not sure if you mentioned it then, but maybe put a poll out and see what people say or think. It wouldn't hurt, right.

Cranky toddler, did you even get her into her costume?

What is it about Fridays? Hudson plays all morning with kids at church then he doesn't nap either. Yeah, knowing how long Halloween night was going to be I waited for two hours for him to fall asleep--but nothin! He just laid in his bed humming the whole time. He survived trick-or-treating though so thats good.

Thanks for the support and sorry it's taken me so long to reply, something's up with blogger so I didn't realize anyone had commented (poor sad neglected blog!).

Sandy, we should definitely re-assess playgroup time, esp with all the new babies. I like the idea of it being longer and people come and go as they need to. We may have to leave later and just let C crash in the car.

Imez, we DID get her costumed (after much whining!) and she was fine for collecting candy from the neighbors, or course! getting into bed afterwards? not fun.

Arian, Hudson, too? Geez. Fridays are my favorite day... except for this!
